Are you trying to eat more fruit, but getting frustrated?

Eating fresh fruit from a local fruit market can be such an enjoyable experience, but sometimes getting to the fruit market just isn’t feasible. What do you do when your neighborhood doesn’t have a local fruit market?

Grocery stores can be a great place to buy fruit, but sometimes getting to the grocery store might be inconvenient.

  • What do you do when the grocery store doesn’t sell the fruit you like?
  • What do you do when carrying heavy groceries just isn’t possible?
  • What are your options when cutting and slicing fresh fruit is too time-consuming, or too painful?

Keep on reading and I’ll give you ten reasons why the internet is the best fruit market.

1. You Can Try A Fruit Box

A fruit box might bring up memories of an underwhelming Christmas gift, and for that, I’m sorry.

But fruit boxes can be delightful and can be purchased for all types of reasons: office parties, for convenience at home, as a gift, or as a way to try a new type of fruit.

Fruit boxes can be ordered as a one-time purchase or as a monthly service.

2. You Can Find The Right Fruit Delivery Service

Fruit delivery service could take the form of a fruit bouquet, a CSA produce box, or grocery delivery.

Using a grocery delivery service would allow you to choose from any type of fresh produce in the store including fresh fruit, dried fruit, fruit leather, freeze-dried fruit, canned fruit, frozen fruit, and fruit juice.

When deciding on the right fruit delivery service for you, ask yourself these questions:

  • What makes the most sense for you?
  • Is there a special occasion?
  • Are you looking to try something new?
  • Or do you know exactly what you want?
  • Is saving time your goal?
  • Do you want your delivery to go to your home? Or to your office? Or to a loved one?
  • Do you want to support local farmers?

3. Freeze Dried Bulk Fruit Is A Nice Change Of Pace

Most of us are familiar with dried fruits such as prunes (dried plums), raisins and craisins. Dates, figs, and dried apricots are pretty common as well.

Have you ever had freeze-dried strawberries or freeze-dried bananas (no, not banana chips or dehydrated bananas- these are crispier and often have added ingredients such as oil, sugar, and salt)?

Freeze-dried fruits have more moisture removed as compared to other dried fruits and have a longer shelf life. Freeze-dried fruits usually get very soft as they are placed in the mouth. Products vary of course, but the softer texture may be better for people with chewing problems or braces.

Because of their long shelf life, both freeze-dried bulk fruit and wholesale dried fruit are great additions to an emergency food storage plan.

4. Bulk Dried Fruit Is So Easy

We’re usually used to eating the same things regularly. Most grocery stores reflect this. Fresh Apples, Pears, Oranges, Bananas, Grapes, and Mellon, are very common.

What do you do when you just want something different?

Dried Bulk Fruits can help with this. I personally like to keep two or three types of dried bulk fruits in my pantry at all times. They’re like an emergency backup for when you’re tired of the same old thing.

You just buy bulk fruit, put it in the pantry. When you want it, eat it. When you don’t, just keep it in an airtight container. It won’t go bad any time soon.

Dried fruit can be added to hot cereals (like oatmeal), cold cereals, yogurt parfaits, cookies, dessert bars and made into trail mix. Dried fruit can also be eaten plain as a snack.

Dried fruit can also be used in main dishes.

5. Can You Really Get To A Fresh Fruit Market?

Depending on where you live, a fresh fruit market just might not be an easy place to get to.

When I googled “fresh fruit market near me” I saw listings for a farmers market (nice! but it’s closed for the next five days.), a convenience store (which probably does not sell a variety of fruits), and an international grocery store (a place I’ve been to and like very much, but it doesn’t actually sell much fruit.)

So, if you can’t get to a fresh fruit market, definitely think about other ways buy fruit.

6. Fruit And Vegetable Delivery Is Now Easier Than Ever

Fresh Fruit and Delivery is definitely easier now than in the past.

Options include local CSA’s, ugly fruit, specialty produce companies, and grocery delivery services.

Personally, I have found that grocery delivery through Shipt and Instacart is very cost-effective and that most customers really enjoy the high level of customer service that is provided. Grocery store chains also offer delivery or curbside pick-up.

Fresh fruit, dried fruit, powdered fruit, and canned fruit can also be ordered through online retailers such as Amazon and Thrive Market.

7. Freeze Dried Fruit Powder Can Be A Great Alternative To Fresh Fruit

We seem to hear over and over again that “fresh is best” and that we should be eating fresh fruit and vegetables. My motto is “Fresh may be best, but convenience is key.” In other words, yes, there are many benefits to eating fresh fruit (and fresh food in general), but let’s think about this in more detail:

  • Fresh fruit is not always convenient.
  • Fresh fruit is heavy (depending on how much you are purchasing.)
  • Fresh fruit might spoil before you eat it.
  • Fresh fruit may require a lot of cutting, peeling or juicing.
  • For people with low energy or pain, preparing fresh fruit just might not be possible.
  • If you don’t have access to a full-service kitchen dealing with fresh fruit might not be ideal either.
  • For people with digestive disorders, fresh fruit might be upsetting to the stomach.

Freeze-dried fruit powder can be a great alternative to fresh fruit.

Many fruits are available as a freeze-dried fruit powder and most of these products are Single Ingredient Groceries (meaning they contain only one ingredient).

Freeze-dried fruit powder can be added to smoothies and other beverages.

8. Fruit Box Delivery Makes A Really Nice Gift

My sons were pretty young when their grandfather died and they were very sad. It was close to Christmas and nobody was really in the mood to celebrate. Everybody was feeling pretty gloomy.

Then, a package arrived. It was a box of honeybell oranges from one of our aunts. She included a nice note to my sons about how much their grandfather loved them and to take good care of themselves during this sad time.

The gift was wonderful.

It wasn’t overwhelming.

The oranges were large, bright, and beautiful. They were familiar enough to be comforting and easily accepted, but also new and interesting.

None of us ever had a honeybell orange so we looked them up on the internet and then later did a taste test to compare the navel oranges we already had vs the new honeybell oranges.

The fruit box was all around perfect – pretty, practical and gently distracting.

Fruit boxes don’t have to be just for sad occasions or for “traditional” holiday gifts. Fruit boxes are also great birthday gifts.

9. Organic Dried Fruit Is Fancy And Nice

Organic dried fruit comes in personal size bags of individual fruits (such as mango, peaches, bananas) as well as in pretty gift boxes and trays.

The individual bags of organic dried fruit are nice to keep at your desk, in your backpack and car. They are convenient and look nice so it makes eating fruit easy and enjoyable.

Organic dried fruit gift boxes and trays are nice for gifts, to serve to guests or to share at a work pot-luck.

10. You Love Fruit And You Want Your Life To Be Easier

Modern life can be a bit overwhelming, and most people don’t have enough time or energy to do everything they want (NEED) to do…cooking, laundry, cleaning, exercising, working, commuting, shopping never seem to be DONE and we still need to sleep and spend time with our loved ones.

Because of this, I’m a huge advocate for making life easier. Online shopping can definitely help with that. If you love fruit, there are lots of options to try new fruits and to make your life a little easier in the process.

If you love fruit, I recommend using a combination of online shopping to meet your own individual needs:

  • Grocery Delivery Service such as Shipt or Instacart.Ordering individual servings of dried fruit or freeze-dried fruit.
  • Ordering bulk supplies of dried fruit.
  • Enjoying a monthly fruit delivery service.
  • Purchasing pretty fruit arrangements and boxes for special occasions.

Final Thoughts

A special note to people with food allergies and sensitivities. Please read all labels and packages carefully. Some fruit products (especially canned fruits and dried fruits) may contain more than one ingredient. Sometimes sweeteners and preservatives are added.

This is generally not a problem for most shoppers, but can definitely be a problem if you have an allergy or sensitivity to the added ingredient. Consider purchasing fruit (and other groceries) that contain only a single ingredient

Also, some dried fruits are processed with or near nuts, so extreme caution is recommended if you have a nut allergy or sensitivity.

Do you love fruit? What strategies do you use to eat a bigger variety of fruit? How do you make your life easier when it comes to eating fruit?
